Running group uses profits from 10 mile race to donate to primary school

Tiptree Road Runners have used profits raised from the Tiptree 10 road race to donate the bench to Messing Primary School.

The bench is already being well used by pupils at the school who are enjoying the new garden area as a quiet reading area and learning space.

The children chose for the engraving on the bench to read ‘Hakuna Matata. Don’t worry be happy. Positive mind, positive vibe, positive life.’

Tiptree Road Runners press officer and charity coordinator, Jodie Wells said: “We donated a bench to go into their sensory garden from some of the profits from last year’s Tiptree 10 road race last year.

“The ‘Buddy Bench’ sits pride of place in their new ‘Fredricks Garden’, a sensory and wellness garden.

“The garden was very much a community project with local volunteers and parents donating their time and also things like a water feature and storage for their outdoor library area.

“The big opening was attended by some of our running club members and they had a thoroughly wonderful afternoon in which the children read out poems that they’d written aloud.

“There was also a MacMillan coffee initiative running alongside this so lots of lovely cake was on offer too.

“I just thought it was a really lovely example of lots of different people coming together for the benefit of the children in their local community.”
